Haridwar Travel

Haridwar, the ancient holy city, is located in the north Indian state of
Uttaranchal at about 200 km from Delhi. Haridwar in the ancient scriptures
is referred as Mayapuri, Gangadwar and Mokashadwar or emancipation for the
soul. Haridwar is 'the Gateway to the Gods'. It is one of the seven holiest
places where the Gods are believed to have left their footprints. Haridwar
is also the starting point for important pilgrimages to Rishikesh, Badrinath
and Kedarnath for the Hindus.
Haridwar is the ancient city associated with sages and meditation. All major
Hindus festivals are celebrated here. Besides Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain,
it is the fourth place where Kumbh Mela is held once in 12 years when more
than 20 million devotees take a holy dip in the Ganges. King Vikramaditya
constructed Har-ki-Pauri, the sacred ghat here, in the memory of his brother
Bhartrihari. The Ganga Aarti here in the evening provides the most enthralling
and pious moment for the soul.
The other soul pleasing places in and around Haridwar are:

where Adi Shankaracharya established the main statue in 8th century; Goddess
Mansa Devi temple is perched atop Bilwa Parvat; Vaishno Devi temple a true
replica of the original temple in Jammu & Kashmir; Bharat Mata Temple;
Maya Devi Temple; Bhimgoda; and Shanti Kunj.

to the plains from the hills, has numerous temples and Ashrams in the beautiful
natural surroundings; Daksh Mahadev Temple as also many, many other temples
and ashrams at Kankhal; Sapt Rishi Ashram where the Ganges flows in seven
